Wraptopia, Vol. 33
One of fashion's dirty little secrets is that it's hardly ever glamorous. I once threw my back out carrying fabric bolts across the garment district and a recent return trip to New York was no different—18 gritty days managing supply chain logistics across the tristate, one dusty, musty warehouse at a time.
I packed accordingly (jeans and sneakers!) never expecting to get an offer too good to refuse mid-trip—an invite to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders 2023 swimsuit calendar launch party where Elizabeth Kosich New York bikinis are featured throughout. My first thought was OMG I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR. Except that I did. I had an entire warehouse brimming with something to wear.
It was pouring rain on party day which matched my mood—strained, weary and feeling frumpy after 3 weeks on the road. Above all I wanted to be comfortable, covered and emotionally supported that night so started styling slouchy wraps. Now, I've worked with this design for over 7 years, have worn it thousands of times and styled it on countless customers. But that night I stumbled upon yet another new way to wrap it—kimono sleeves looped in front to make a plunging V. Voilà, I was ready to party with America's Sweethearts.
Thank goodness for soul-saving second winds. Here I am on a rainy night in Frisco, Texas amazed by the new discovery, reassured I'm on to something, encouraged to keep at it and hopeful for what's to come. And, at last, glamorous.
